The Poetry Friday Anthology

My dog controls
The weather.

When Fido barks
It hails,

When Fido’s quiet
It snows,

When Fido’s angry
It sleets,

When Fido’s happy …

About this Poem

I have friends who are animal lovers so it was seeing their joy around these unique creatures that gave me the idea for this poem written years ago.  It’s not based on a particular animal per say but in any event I think Fido is pretty cool, I hope you do too!

  1. Thank you so much Kenn for highlighting not only myself but the textbook in which this children’s poem appears.

Charles Waters has a talent for picking universal topics that really draw readers (especially boys) in–poems about fishing with Dad and Grandpa, shaving for the first time, playing soccer with cousins, getting a crummy sack lunch. And he is an INCREDIBLE performer–really gets his audience excited about poetry! So proud to work with you, Charles!

  3. I always love Charles’ joyous, kid-friendly poems!
